Beniel’s history has been surrounded by circumstances that have endowed it with some special characteristics. Located in the Region of Murcia’s vast fertile fields, its neighbouring conditions between Orihuela and Murcia have shaped the area’s destiny throughout history. The Segura river has been partly responsible for Beniel’s evolution, influenced by the conditions of a rather unproductive, marshy and barren soil, not to mention the threat of numerous floods that Beniel has had to withstand over the years.

In the Middle Ages, Beniel was a neighbouring town, controlled by the Junterón family in the Modern Age, facing some truly difficult times during the 19th century and into the first part 20th century. However, thanks to the will of its people, the town began to see economic recovery towards the end of the 20th century at the hand of the modernisation of its economy and with its sights set on the important sector and industry of agricultural.
